A good long-distance gift can be something your partner uses, something you make, or a plan for your next visit. Start with what they like and what would fit their day: a letter to read after work, photos from your last trip, or a pillowcase for their bed.
Hug This Pillow Until You Can Hug Me
Our Hug This Pillow Until You Can Hug Me pillowcase has that full message printed on the cover, with two paper cranes. It is a way to send an “I miss you” message that they can keep on their pillow.
Choose an 18 x 18 inch throw cover, a 20 x 30 inch Standard/Queen pillowcase, or a 20 x 40 inch King pillowcase. Measure the pillow it will cover before ordering. The fabric is polyester microfiber and the cover is machine washable. We decorate pillowcases to order in our North Carolina studio using blanks made in China.
For a shared design, browse our couples pillowcases. Check each listing for the number of covers and available sizes; a photo showing two pillows does not necessarily mean both are included.
Write something they can keep
A handwritten letter
Write about a particular day you spent together, something you miss about them, or what you want to do on your next visit. If you like the message-in-a-bottle idea, put the letter in a small bottle and pack it so the glass is protected in transit.
Open-when letters
Make a few envelopes for different moments: “Open when you've had a rough day,” “Open when you miss me,” or “Open before our next visit.” A story, photo, or inside joke gives each letter something different to say.
A jar of notes
Write short notes on separate pieces of paper. Mix memories with small things you appreciate about your partner. Label the jar so they know whether to read one each day or whenever they want.
Use your shared photos
A scrapbook, framed photo, or folded photo box can hold pictures from a trip or ordinary days together. Add dates and captions so the photos tell a story. For a distance map, mark where each of you lives and places you have visited together.
Choose a small matching gift
Matching keychains are easy to carry. A Morse code bracelet can spell a name or short message; include a note explaining the code. Choose a design your partner would wear or use, rather than one that only looks good in a gift photo.
Plan time together
Arrange a video date around an activity you both enjoy: cook the same meal, watch a film, or play an online game. If you want to visit, check their availability before booking. You can keep part of the plan a surprise while agreeing on the dates.
Match the gift to the occasion
For an anniversary, pair a letter with a photo from your time together. For a birthday, choose something connected to their interests. A care package can include a favorite snack or a book they want to read. Check delivery dates and any food or shipping restrictions before sending it.
