Small DIY Home Decor Projects to Try with What You Have

Choose one small project for a specific place in the room. Measure that space and gather the materials before starting. Use items you can move or change easily while deciding what works.

Make a group of framed pictures

Choose a few photos, drawings or postcards that share a color or subject. Arrange the frames on a table before hanging them. Make paper outlines of the frames to compare spacing on the wall.

Reset a shelf

Take everything off one shelf and clean it according to its finish. Put back the books and objects you use or want to display. Group small objects on a tray so they can be moved together.

Change a pillow cover

Measure the insert first. Choose a cover that uses a color already in the room, then check the listing for dimensions and whether the insert is included. A new cover can reuse a pillow you already own.

Use fabric you have

A sound piece of leftover fabric can become a simple cover or small sewing project. Measure twice, allow room for seams and choose instructions for your sewing experience. Worn fabric may work better as a cleaning cloth than as a cover.

Finish before starting another project

Put the completed item in its intended place and check whether it works with everyday use. Keep leftover supplies together so the next project does not begin with another purchase.
