Bedroom Ideas for Couples: Storage, Lighting and Personal Details

Talk about how each of you uses the bedroom before changing it. Measure the room, list what you want to keep and decide which practical problem to solve first.

Measure around the bed

Mark the bed’s footprint and check that drawers, doors and wardrobes can open. Include the frame and headboard in the measurements, not just the mattress.

Give each person usable space

Decide where each person will keep a book, phone or glass of water. Choose storage for the things you already have. Put everyday items where they can be reached without moving other belongings.

Plan lighting for different routines

If one person reads later, choose where a reading light will go. Check switch and outlet locations before buying lamps. Leave access for cleaning and changing bedding.

Choose a few details together

Compare colors and designs against the bedding you are keeping. For a couple’s pillowcase set, check the quantity, printed messages and dimensions on the listing. A mattress size does not identify the pillowcase size.

Try the changes before adding more

Live with the arrangement for a few days. Adjust storage or lighting that gets in the way, then choose any remaining decoration together.
