Before throwing out an old pillowcase, check whether the fabric is still useful. Wash it first, then keep it separate from bedding you use for sleep.
Keep a sheet set together
Fold a clean sheet set and put it inside its matching pillowcase. Place the opening toward the back of the shelf so the sheets stay together when you take the set out.
Store spare fabric items
Use an old case to hold cloth napkins, spare covers or fabric scraps. Label the outside so you can find the contents without opening every bundle. Store everything dry.
Make a cleaning cloth
A worn case can be cut into smaller cloths. Try a cloth on an inconspicuous area first and follow the surface manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. Use a separate cloth for each cleaner; avoid treating a bedding fabric as a universal cleaning tool.
Keep usable cases in rotation
If a case still fits and the fabric is intact, keep it as a spare. Follow its care label for washing and drying. A damaged case can be retired from bedding without needing a new use for every scrap.
