Check the cover first
Empty anything caught in the opening and look for loose seams or a damaged closure. If you are treating a stain, use a method compatible with the fabric and its care instructions. Check the cleaner’s directions before applying it to a printed design.
Choose settings from the label
Use the washing temperature and cycle permitted for the cover. Wash with compatible items and follow the detergent directions for the load. A coloring pillowcase may have separate directions for setting the design before its first wash.
Keep the insert separate
Do not assume the pillow can go through the same wash as its case. Follow the insert’s own label, including its drying instructions. If that label is missing, identify the insert before choosing a cleaning method.
Dry before putting it back
Use the drying method permitted by the care label and make sure the cover is dry before replacing it on the pillow or storing it. Keep a spare clean cover for use while one is in the wash.
